New Resident Information
- Tax rate for the Town of Odessa is currently .25 per one hundred dollars of the assessed value for residential and .90 per one hundred dollars of the assessed value for commercial. Tax bills are sent out on July 1st of each year and are due by September 30th.
- Meetings of Mayor & Council are on the first Monday of the month at Town Hall, please feel free to attend any meeting. Meetings are posted on the kiosk in front of the post office, the library and here on our website.
- Besides the Mayor & Council, there are three other volunteer commissions that assist in governing the Town: Historic, Planning & Trees. If you would like to consider joining one of these commissions, please reach out to the town secretary for more information.
- Elections are held on the 1st Monday in April. You need to be registered with the Town of Odessa to vote in our election. To register, you must have a valid driver’s license or utility bill showing your name and current address. Please contact the town secretary to get registered to vote.
- If your property is located in the Historic District, any exterior work on your property will require approval by the Historic Commission, before starting.
- All Building, Plumbing, HVAC & Electrical Permits & Inspections are handled by the Town and need to be submitted to the Town Office for approval and inspection, prior to starting any work. Please feel free to contact town hall if you have questions on permits.
- Trash is provided by a company that the Town has contracted with, and that is paid with your yearly tax bill. Trash, recycling and yard waste are picked up on alternating Monday’s. The trash schedule is posted online.
- Since there is no mail delivery, you will need to obtain a post office box at the Odessa Post Office. It would be helpful if you would email the Town with your new Post Office box number, so we have it on file if we need to mail something to you.
- If your property is hooked to public water, the contact is Artesian Water Company.
- If your property is hooked to public sewer, the contact is New Castle County.
- Our electric utility company is Delmarva Power and Chesapeake Utilities for gas service. Verizon and Breezeline provide cable services.
